-Matilde in Chelmsford
Matilde Ancilli and her family moved into the recently constructed 4 bed home located in a beautiful hamlet in the outskirts of Chelmsford.
The fixed flat glass roof situated above the landing allows natural light to flood the centre of the home.
However, this light was less welcomed in the Summer early hours. Heat gain built up excessively warming the home in the summer
WindowTreat installed the Electric Roof Lantern Blind with a white polyester blackout fabric. This roof lantern blind system has a zipped fabric that locks into the side channels. Combined with the specialise fabric this provides unrivalled room darkening (blackout). The white taut fabric helps create a subtle false ceiling effect when closed making it a popular colour choice. Reflecting 77% of the summer heat and letting in 0% of the light this fabric ensured Matilde that she will get the most out of her investment. At this size, the tension cords that help deliver the desired cloth finish are hidden within the side channels, so no cords are visible over the roof lantern opening. The blind has the intelligence to automatically close in the evening and open in the morning ready for breakfast as well as closing when in the summer if temperatures begin to rise.
What does this mean to the Ancilli family? No more interrupted sleep due to light shining underneath the bedroom doors. They can now manage the natural light as and when they require it using remote handsets, wall switches and automation. The Roof Lantern Blind helps manage a cooler home environment in the summer. The blind can close if the family are out and the sun comes out. In the winter it can close to help retain the heat throughout the cold nights.
It’s a great solution and with its shelving system distracting from any hardware in the upstand, it looks great.
With pre-planning and the advantage of hindsight, concealment boxes known as Blindspace can be integrated during the 1st fix building works. This takes the already superb blind system to a new level of minimalism where the hem bar and fabric disappear into the upstand with no hardware on show.
Another consideration would be an external roof lantern Blind as then all the hardware is out of view whilst tackling the heat issue before it even enters the flat glass glazing system. This is the ultimate investment in heat control with a room-darkening fabric available that removes all the light.
This is an amazing solution, but if you are in the midst of a new build or extension, then you have the wonderful opportunity to invest in concealed blinds by building Blindspace boxes into the window structure. Concealed blinds using Blindspace are popular due to their minimalist appearance and clean lines.
Another approach, which incredibly is even more minimalist, is to invest in external rooflight blinds that can’t be seen from inside and offer up to 97 per cent solar heat rejection.
Electric Roof Lantern Blinds can be mains-powered. However, you can click the following links to explore solar-powered roof lantern blinds and battery-powered roof lantern blinds.
