The Challenge
After years of London living, Caroline and her husband longed for cleaner air, open skies and countryside views. Their move to Lincolnshire gave them the chance to build their dream home from the ground up. Working with their architect, they created a striking contemporary property with standout features, including a dramatic shaped gable‑end window in the master bedroom. It was a fixed expanse of glazing, over 5 metres wide and nearly 5 metres tall. The wow factor was undeniable.
But once the excitement settled, a practical truth emerged. This was still a bedroom. It needed privacy. It needed darkness. It needed to be a space where you could put your pyjamas on without the world looking in, and sleep soundly even during early summer sunrises.
As Caroline put it, “After you get over the beauty of it you then realise, we need to create an area that has the ability to reduce down light entirely.”
The build was already complete, and shaped blinds were proving far more complex than she expected. Traditional systems could not cope with the size or geometry. Some companies were “a little bit shocked” when she told them the dimensions. Others proposed solutions that were “nowhere near as good and actually a very similar price and in some circumstances even more expensive.”
Caroline needed a solution that preserved the architectural impact rather than covering it up.
The Vision
Caroline wanted to keep the drama of the gable glazing while gaining full control over light and privacy. She explored honeycomb systems and shaped roller concepts, but quickly realised that only a high‑performance lifting roller blind with a dimensionally stable fabric could deliver the precision, durability and blackout performance she needed.
She also wanted the finished installation to look intentional, not like an afterthought. The blind had to sit neatly within the architecture, complement the interior palette and maintain the clean lines of the glazing.
Aesthetics mattered just as much as performance. As she said, “Aesthetically, it just really finishes the window off.”
Our Solution
During her consultation with Chris, Caroline received a detailed presentation pack that helped her and her husband understand the mechanics, the engineering and the long‑term reliability of the system. “Chris was brilliant. He gave me the comfort that you guys were not only professional but had a huge amount of experience.”
Once the design was agreed, Martin carried out the technical survey. His precision made an immediate impression. Caroline described him as “so into the detail” with a “mathematical brain” that gave her confidence the installation would be exact.
Because of the sheer size of the cassette, the team used a cherry picker to bring the blind through the first‑floor window. The installers worked with care, organisation and respect for the home. “They were incredibly neat and tidy. Scrupulous with the detail of the installation.”
The chosen system was a lifting roller blind with a custom pelmet, engineered to rise smoothly into the gable apex. The fabric was a light grey blackout material that delivered total darkness without feeling heavy when the blind was raised.

An electric lifting roller blind system delivered privacy and light control, without compromising the glazing’s impact.
The Result
The transformation was immediate. Caroline finally had a master bedroom that balanced beauty with comfort.
At night, the blackout performance is flawless. “There is absolutely zero light ingress,” she said, “and the pelmet you supplied… really finishes the window off.” Her husband, a famously light sleeper, now rests undisturbed even during early summer dawns.
During the day, the blind can be partially raised for privacy while still allowing the countryside views to shine through. When fully open, the light grey fabric sits discreetly, preserving the architectural drama of the glazing.
The blind also added an unexpected benefit. “It has also helped with sound,” Caroline explained. The extra layer reduced noise from the nearby road, complementing the home’s triple glazing.
Most importantly, the installation gave Caroline exactly what she hoped for: a bedroom that feels both spectacular and practical. “We couldn’t be happier. We absolutely struck gold with you guys.”
She was clear about her experience from start to finish. “It really has been a pleasure to work with you. You exceeded our expectations.”
