Success Story: Anthony’s Ecolux Insulation Upgrade for a Warmer Playroom

The Challenge

Anthony had recently invested in upgrading every window in his home to the highest rated modern double glazing. The house felt warmer and more efficient overall, but one room continued to trouble him.

His young daughter’s playroom featured very large glazed French doors. One evening, while tidying up after a busy day of drawing and painting, Anthony felt a noticeable chill coming from the glass. It caught him off guard. This was brand new, high performance glazing, yet the cold still seemed to radiate into the room.

His immediate concern was simple. If he could feel that chill in a few moments, his daughter must feel it far more during the hours she spends sitting close to the glass.

The playroom needed to feel genuinely warm and comfortable, not just in theory but in real everyday use.

The Vision

Anthony explained, “If you were sat close to the glass you could feel a chill effect.” He wanted the room to feel consistently warm at child height without turning the heating up or rearranging the space.

The brief was clear. He needed a solution that:

  • Reduced the cold radiant effect coming from the large glazed doors
  • Improved insulation without replacing the new glazing
  • Made the playroom feel warmer and more comfortable for his daughter
  • Worked invisibly without changing the look of the doors
  • Delivered a measurable improvement in real world comfort

The answer had to be effective, discreet and scientifically proven.

Our Solution

During the consultation, we explored why the room still felt cold despite modern glazing. The issue was not the air temperature. It was radiant heat loss.

Your body constantly emits radiant heat. When you sit near cold glass, that heat is absorbed by the glazing and lost outdoors. The sensation feels like a draught, but it is really your own warmth being pulled away from you.

The ideal solution was SolarGard Ecolux, a low emissivity insulation film designed to stop radiant heat loss before it happens.

Anthony chose Ecolux because it improves comfort without altering the appearance of the glass and without replacing the glazing he had already invested in.

Why Ecolux

Low Emissivity Performance: Ecolux has an emissivity of 0.09, which means it reflects 91 percent of radiant body heat back into the room instead of letting it escape through the glass.

Immediate Comfort: When you stand close to Ecolux treated glass, you feel your own warmth returning to you. The cold chill effect disappears.

Upgraded Insulation: Single glazing treated with Ecolux performs much closer to standard modern double glazing. Older double glazing treated with Ecolux moves toward the performance of modern energy efficient double glazing.

Invisible Finish: The film is optically clear and does not change the appearance of the French doors.

The result is a high performance insulation upgrade that improves comfort without replacing the glass.

The Result

The improvement was immediate and noticeable. The playroom now feels warmer, more comfortable and far more inviting for long periods of play.

Anthony shared, “I did not think it would be that good. It has made a massive difference.”

The cold radiant effect near the glass has been eliminated, and the room now performs the way a modern family space should. His daughter can sit, draw and play close to the doors without feeling chilled.

This project shows how a scientifically engineered low emissivity film can transform the comfort of a room by stopping radiant heat loss before it happens, all without changing the look of the glazing or replacing the windows.
