The Challenge
When Sally moved into her new home, she wanted the kitchen and family space to feel bright, open and connected to the garden. The large roof lantern delivered exactly that. The room filled with daylight and quickly became the heart of the home.
The west facing orientation created a problem. As soon as the sun appeared, the room heated up fast. The combination of bi fold doors and the lantern above made the space uncomfortable during the afternoon.
Sally described it clearly:
“When the sun is out, we get a lot of heat in this room. It gets very hot and then really uncomfortable.”
She needed a solution that controlled heat without losing the light and openness that made the room special.
The Vision
Sally wanted to keep the uplifting feel of the space. She loved the view of the sky and the sense of height above the kitchen. Sally didn’t want a blackout blind or anything that made the room feel dull.
She explained her goal perfectly:
“We wanted something that could reflect the sun, keep us cooler, but also keep the essence of the room.”
Pleated systems were ruled out because they created lines across the lantern and often sagged. She also wanted a blind that operated electrically, quietly and without poles or manual effort. The blind needed to look clean, modern and effortless.
The brief became clear. Sally wanted a single, elegant blind that protected the room from heat while keeping the space bright and enjoyable.
Our Solution
Sally researched many options and quickly discovered that very few companies could produce a blind large enough for her 4.5 metre lantern. She wanted one single blind and didn’t want the lines created by honeycomb pleated systems.
After comparing reviews and technical details, she chose WindowTreat.
“We read loads of reviews and decided that WindowTreat were by far the best site to meet our needs.”
During her consultation, Chris guided her through the fabrics and performance differences. Together they selected the Athena Roof Blind with Snow White fabric, the most reflective option in the range.
Installation day confirmed her choice. The team protected her furniture, worked neatly and explained every detail.
“The fitting was fantastic. You would hardly have known they were here. They were quick, efficient and really helpful.”
The result was a perfectly integrated blind that looked like part of the original design.

The Result
The difference was immediate. The blind reduced heat and glare while keeping the room bright and comfortable. Sally could still enjoy the view of the sky and the feeling of height above the kitchen.
Her reaction says everything:
“It has exceeded our expectations. It makes the room much cooler and we are still keeping all the light.”
The blind operates smoothly and quietly. Visitors notice it straight away and comment on how refined it looks.
“Anybody who has come to visit us has been really impressed. We would thoroughly recommend this blind. We already have.”
Sally now enjoys a bright, comfortable and beautifully controlled living space that works perfectly throughout the year.
