Only the Toughest Fabrics Earn a Place in Athena Electric Roof Blind Systems

Most fabrics never make it past the first hurdle. To be considered for the Athena roof lantern blind system, a fabric must survive intense testing for dimensional stability. It must hold its shape under heat, humidity, gravity and tension without shifting even a fraction.

A roof lantern is one of the harshest environments you can put a blind into. The fabric is stretched across a horizontal span, carrying its own weight while taking the full force of the sun. Only advanced materials such as fibreglass screens, pre‑tensioned composites and engineered technical textiles can withstand this stress day after day, year after year.

Once a fabric proves it can stay stable, the real decision begins. Homeowners often start with a single priority, but every living space has a wider set of comfort needs. Heat, brightness, screen glare, privacy, acoustics and overall ambience all influence how a room feels and functions. The right fabric must solve the primary issue while supporting the way the space is actually used. The performance varies, the look varies, but stability is guaranteed.

Athena starts with the most dimensionally stable fabrics available. From there, you choose the one that transforms your room in the way you need most. After all, this is why you began researching roof blinds in the first place: to make a real difference to how your space feels and how you live in it.

Helioscreen Serge 1%

Helioscreen Serge 1% is a fibreglass-based screen fabric designed for glare control. Its tight, twill weave blocks more light while still allowing a subtle view through, making it ideal for bright spaces where screen comfort is a priority. It can be used in Athena roof blinds with at least one length less than 2800mm without requiring a mid-weld (join in the fabric)

Helioscreen Serge 3%

Helioscreen Serge 3% is a fibreglass‑based screen fabric that stays reliably flat and stable in a roof‑lantern setting. Its 3% twill weave openness gives a clearer outward view while softening brightness, and it comes in a wide range of colours so you can match both the look and the level of comfort you want in the space. It can be used in any sized Athena roof blind without requiring a mid-weld (join in the fabric).

Copaco Serge 600 Solar

Copaco Serge 600 Solar is a fibreglass‑based fabric with a blockout laminate that makes it ideal for roof lanterns and skylights that are overlooked. It delivers strong daytime privacy while still allowing a gentle level of natural light into the room, so the space stays bright without feeling exposed. The laminate also creates an effective thermal barrier, helping to retain warmth in winter by reducing heat loss through the colder glass. It is a smart choice when privacy and insulation are just as important as daylight. It can be used in any sized Athena roof blind without requiring a mid-weld (join in the fabric).

Copaco Serge 600 Lunar (Blackout Fabric)

Copaco Serge 600 Lunar is a full‑blackout, fibreglass‑based fabric designed for total room darkening. Its opaque laminate blocks all incoming light through the lantern, making it ideal for bedrooms, media rooms or any space where complete darkness is essential. The fibreglass core keeps it stable under tension, and the blackout layer also helps reduce winter heat loss through the glass. It can be used in all Athena systems at any size, but roof blinds with both lengths greater than 2100mm will require at least one mid-weld (join in the fabric) pending length.

Serge Ferrari Soltis Perform 92

Serge Ferrari Perform 92 is a high‑performance screen fabric valued for its excellent water resistance and its Précontraint® technology, a manufacturing method that pre‑stretches the fabric in both directions to lock the weave in place permanently. This gives it exceptional dimensional stability. Its 4% openness factor brings in good levels of natural light while still providing meaningful heat and glare reduction, making it a strong option for brighter rooms that need control without losing daylight. Soltis Perform 92 can be used on any sized Athena system but roof blinds with both width and length greater than 2650mm will require a mid-weld (join in fabric).

Serge Ferrari Soltis Touch 1% and 3%

Soltis Touch in both 1% and 3% openness is a textile‑feel architectural screen fabric designed to manage heat, light and acoustic comfort. Its woven, fabric‑like surface gives a softer, more interior‑friendly aesthetic than traditional screen materials, while still delivering strong solar performance. The 1% version offers tighter glare control and greater visual comfort, while the 3% version brings in more natural light with a clearer outward view. Both help reduce reverberation thanks to their sound‑absorbing structure, making them ideal for roof‑lantern and skylight spaces where you want a premium look with practical environmental control. The Soltis Touch fabric range can only be used on Athena blind systems up to 2500mm wide.

Solaye Sunshadow CA ALU

Solaye Sunshadow CA Alu is a performance fabric designed for strong heat rejection in every colour, using its aluminium‑backed coating to reflect a significant amount of solar energy back through the glazing. It manages heat and light in a balanced way, keeping roof‑lantern spaces cooler and more comfortable while still allowing natural daylight to enter. Think of it sunglasses for your roof lantern, cutting the intensity of the sun without darkening the room. The Solaye Sunshadow Alu fabric range can only be used on Athena blind systems up to 2500mm wide.

Solaye Chameleon 3500N 3%

Solaye Chameleon 3500N 3% is a screen fabric designed to give a clear view out while providing strong glare control. Its 3% openness keeps the room bright, and the lighter colours offer better solar reflection to help manage heat. The construction includes a black interlayer within the brighter yarns, which improves view‑through clarity by reducing internal reflections. The result is a fabric that feels soft and textile‑like while delivering reliable light and heat management for roof‑lantern spaces. The Soltis Chameleon fabric range can only be used on Athena blind systems up to 2500mm wide.

A well‑chosen roof‑lantern fabric does far more than stay flat and stable. Yes, you want a blind with no visible cords and no sagging, but the fabric choice is what determines whether your extension feels calm, bright and comfortable all year round. The real transformation comes from selecting a fabric whose performance genuinely matches the way your space behaves. It is never a case of “any fabric will do”. Choosing the right performance fabric protects the dream you had for your designed living space without compromise.
